Bring on the Power Tools

It can be more than a little intimidating and, in all honesty, and some serious injuries can occur if you’re not careful. That can be a reason not to give them a go.

I took a woodworking class through the community college and learned so much about safety and the proper way to use a chop saw and a table saw. I highly recommend these! I had no idea what a push stick was and its importance, safety never takes a holiday!

The first power tools I used were a jig saw and a skill saw which was a good place to start, fairly easy to use and lots of things you can make with just these two! I graduated to a compound miter saw as I was starting to get frustrated with the limitations of the others. This was a game changer. There is just so much you can do on a chop saw and I should have gotten one much sooner it is a must have, if you are serious about being a handy woman, or a maker you wont regret that investment!

I knew shortly they’re after that I would need a table saw and now I couldn’t live without it but it is one most injuries happen on so you do need to be aware of the fingers at all times always be careful and over time you will get more comfortable.

When I was generalizing the build of our home I worked along side the finishing carpenters and finally picked up a nail gun! So easy!! I have no idea why I was ever afraid and the things you can build with a nail gun. You need one of these, and now they even have cordless ones, no more compressors and hose and plugins!!! The other handy little tool I saw them using was a multi tool!!! OMG what a handy little number that is! The first thing I used this for was cutting out installed baseboard to install a bathroom vanity flush to the wall. So easy! Depending on the blade you can cut through wood and metal, so its the perfect tool if you are taking apart older items that are often nailed together, its so great for little cuts on already installed pieces so you don’t have to take things completely apart to redo and so awesome for demo work.

I really want to encourage you to start with one thing, it literally will change your life and seriously their will be nothing YOU can’t do!! Or power tool you will want to try! My latest purchase was a band saw, oh the things you can make with one of those!

A great package to purchase is this one to start with its economical and will provide you with a really good start on your handy woman journey!!

Come on sista’s its never too late to start!!!

Much Love, A. xo
